Shaw Rowhouse

Washington, DC

The clients were about to buy this small two-story row house in the Shaw area of Washington, DC, and engaged FORMA to renovate the spaces, maximize the light and open up the views from the kitchen out to the patio separating the main part of the house from the carriage house in the back. The open plan space downstairs incorporates the living area, dining/work area and kitchen into a cohesive whole, maximizing the shared light coming in from both directions. A glass railing was added to the stair leading upstairs, and skylights on the second floor shed daylight in every space. Artwork from their trips around the world and sculptures from Africa dot the different areas and create a low key yet delightfully warm home for the young couple.
